Bentley is a 1 year old male Boxer.  He was purchased from a backyard breeder and was relinquished due to "bad behavior".   It seems that he has not had any training or obedience.  He does not like to be grabbed by his collar (what dog does?!?)  and he will run to get you to chase him...so he will need a little work on those behaviors.  Bentley is crate trained and housebroken, loves to sleep in bed with you.  He is very playful, outgoing and loves people.  Bentley needs a family who will teach him some manners and how to get good attention :)

Medical issues:

Bentley is allergic to everything.  They did a allergy test on 2/15 and it showed he was allergic to histamine, corn, house dust, dust mites, house flies, fleas and human dander.  He is currently taking allergy shots and he is eating prescription Science Diet Z/D.

UPDATE FROM BENTLEY'S TEMPORARY FOSTER MOM:  I LOVE Bentley so much. He is the biggest lover and goof ball!! He has brought me so much joy and will make someone or a family so incredibly happy.

He has had maybe a handful of accidents within the first couple of days, but after that I put him outside so frequently that he hasn’t had any problems. It takes him awhile to go potty though. He’s not one of those boys that you can take over to a tree and he just goes for you right away.

Bentley LOVES play time and things that squeak, but he also enjoys sleeping a good portion of the day  (and sawing logs). He’s always ready to have a good time but he’s also content with snuggling with you.

Jenny (from the shelter) did mention that he shouldn’t be with younger children and I would agree with that restriction at this point in time. Bentley can be very spunky and I’m trying to teach him what is appropriate play and what is not. I’m not sure if rough housing was acceptable in his previous household, but he definitely knows the word no and does well at following orders.

You are definitely going to want a crate to put him in while you can’t supervise him. A baby gate won’t work. He’ll jump it and your house will look like he invited the whole town over for a party. He does just fine in a crate but I’ve had to escort (or carry) him into the crate.

He travels well and loves the breeze in his face while riding in the car. We take regular walks at the Missouri capitol and he’s come to expect those strolls every day. He’s also a window watcher and will protect his humans that he loves so dearly from those scary noises outdoors. He doesn’t bark very much though, but he will when he feels it’s necessary.

I haven’t had him around other animals. He loves adults though and the more attention he gets the happier he is!

His basic needs are his restricted diet, plenty of affection, and some exercise. As long as he has those things, he’s a happy boy.  Bentley is extra special because of how affectionate he is. It’s nice to be loved!  Bentley has figured out how to open the door to his crate and throws a party for one!   I'm going to have to get a lock for the door. He's been dragging out his leash and will just STARE at me. He's so subtle :)  He's too smart for his own good.

Bentley knows the commands for sit, lay down and stay.  He is currently settling into a longer term foster home and is being introduced to the resident female Boxer.
