Gertie is a stray who was found in rural Kentucky.  We picked her up and took her straight to the vet and it is a good thing we did as she had emergency surgery for pyometra a day later.  She did great during the surgery and will need to stay at the clinic for a few more days to recover and get the rest of her needed vetting then she will be all ready to find her foster or furever home.  Gertie is great with kids and with other dogs, big and small.  She has not been around cats yet.

UPDATE:  Gertie did well with her first heartworm treatment. She will rest up for the next 4 weeks and then get her second round of treatment, after which she will need another 3-4 weeks of rest time before being ready for adoption. GERTIE WILL BE READY TO GO TO HER FOREVER HOME LATE SEPTEMBER TIMEFRAME, AND SHE ALREADY HAS A LOT OF ADOPTION INTEREST.

UPDATE:  Gertie gave us quite a scare last week with a trip to the ER vet which, after much testing, turned out to be an anaphylactic reaction.  She is back on her paws and is cleared for her second round of heartworm treatment on 8/29.

THE LATEST!  Gertie is all finished with her heartworm treatment and is ready to find her furever home!!  She continues to be absolutely amazing with everything and everyone she meets.
