In a joint effort with 605 Boxer Rescue, we were able to help a total of seven beautiful Boxers in a breeder release situation in Louisiana.  Thanks to amazing foster offers, four of the seven dogs came to Across America Boxer Rescue.  Bess is another one of those babies :)  At almost 8 years old, she will soon be in a home and learning how awesome it is to live indoors.  Unlike most puppy mill/breeder release dogs, these seven are fairly social.  As expected, they are timid in new situations but warm up very quickly to new people.  At their previous location, they were all kennelled separately but all played together in the yard so they are all very good with other dogs.

UPDATE FROM BESS' FOSTER MOM:  My Gremlin girl Gizzy (formerly known as Bess) would like to say hello! She wants you to know that she is a mill girl and that she ia finally saved from the ugliness of breeding.  Thank you AABR!!!! She is also learning her manners and how to be a valuable part of the family since she never knew what that meant. She loves her fur-brother Bubba and all the kitties that tease her and send her into spasms trying to play with them. She got to meet the grandkids and she couldn't get enough of them. So stay tuned for more. One day after all her training, vetting and care she may become ready for her forever home.

Bess is crated trained and is working on giving her foster mom signals when she has to go outside.  She will be having an echocardiogram soon to determine the condition of her heart and to make sure she is healthy enough to undergo the injections of heartworm treatment.

2/4/20 UPDATE:  Bess saw the heart specialist and was cleared for heartworm treatment.  Her heart looked great and they did not see much of the disease.   She has become quite the lovebug and has mastered pottying outside.  She crates up beautifully when her foster mom is gone and does great sleeping through the night uncrated and if she does happen to wake up she goes into her crate and goes right back to sleep.

2/24/20 UPDATE:  We retested Bess for heartworm disease just to be sure of the positive result and she did retest positive.  Bess has started the slow-kill heartment treatment and she will be retested in six months.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and please check back in on her then!
