Asher is in pretty rough shape but we are working with the vet clinic to get him all fixed up. He joined us this week from the Hazard, KY shelter. He is an older boy and has A LOT of medical going on, including a 3/5 heart murmur, needed dental, several lumps and bumps and some swelling and loss of range of motion in his right front leg. He is a little bit timid but very sweet and has a great personality and is very friendly :) Asher did very well with his dog test at the shelter.
9/5: Asher is heartworm negative and his chest x-rays look good despite the heart murmur. We are waiting on his bloodwork results and if they are good, we will get him scheduled for tumor removal and dental surgery. He did start on Enalapril for his heart and has been on antibiotics for the swollen spots on his legs. X-rays and testing did not show any signs of bone cancer, thank goodness. His leg is looking better and he is getting around better on it. He is incredibly sweet and is doing great with everyone.
An owner did come forward for him but after a family discussion, they decided it was best for him to stay with the rescue so he can get all of the medical care that he needs. We know that was a difficult decision for them and we are thankful that they put his needs first and that they have entrusted us with his care. We also found out that his real name is Buster so that is what we are actually calling him :)
9/10: Asher will be having an ultrasound tomorrow to check his heart for surgery and if all is good he will get his tumor and bumps removed and get some much needed dental work done early next week. Asher will be in need of a foster home and will likely be ready to travel as soon as the weekend of 9/26.
10/2 UPDATE: Asher was cleared for surgery and came through it beautifully! He did great and the best news....his two tumors were benign!! His leg is all healed up and he is getting around perfectly. He still has a spot of skin healing on his chest but with medication and therapy it is looking much better.
11/1: Asher who we are now calling by his real name Buster arrived at his Minnesota foster home last night after a super long day of transport from Kentucky. The spot on his chest cleared up enough that they were able to close it up. He is taking his meds like a champ and will get his suture stitches out soon. We are sure his foster fursister Susie will show him the ropes!!
10/15/21 UPDATE: Buster continues to do beautifully in his foster home which is now is furever foster home. He is on heart medication and with the exception of an occasional spell, he is doing well with that. He LOVES to ride in the car and often gets to visit facilities to help cheer people up and also helps his mom with home visits for the rescue.
Buster is on daily heart medication and of course monthly heartworm prevantative that the rescue covers the cost of, along with any vet visits or other medical issues that come up. Buster is available for sponsorship to help offset the cost of his care.
