Stella
Stella came to us in August 2016. She was 4 years old and had been with four different families due to her separation anxiety.
The first moment we met her she came wiggling up our driveway looking like a kidney bean. She licked me so much, I had to take a shower. Her foster momma had a wedding to attend out of state, so the plan was to spend a few nights with us to see if she was a good fit.
She never left.
Stella was our first furbaby. She wasn't the easiest in the beginning. We had to modify our schedules and lifestyle, say no to a lot of things, but with the help of our families and friends we quickly established a routine.
My promise to Stella was three things: 1) time 2) patience and 3) I would never give up on her, no matter what.
We learned very quickly Stella was sassy, loved to talk back and extremely smart. She loved kids and squeaky toys. She hated change. One time she got home from Grandma and Grandpas and we had switched out her food bowls while she was away. Very bad idea. She threw an absolute fit! After that incident, anytime she would come home from being away we made sure to go through the entire house and put everything back exactly how it was when she left.
I worked from home so she was with me every day, every hour, every minute. She was the definition of my heart dog. We literally didn't go anywhere without Stella and if we had to, she went to Grandma and Grandpas and she loved it there! She was so spoiled. One of our favorite activities was going to breweries with her. If someone made eye contact with her she would wiggle uncontrollably and win over all the patrons' hearts. She had to lick every single person.
It's the little things I miss the most about Stella - this stupid blue water bowl outside she was so obsessed with, the side eye, brushing her teeth. The talking back when it was -10 out or a literal blizzard and I told her we couldn't go for a walk and then me ending up bundling up her and myself and taking her on that walk. Jumping in bed every morning and snuggling under the sheets, she loved mornings and was so happy. Her excitement over new toys. Her eating spaghetti was so funny. When she wasn't feeling good the only thing she wanted was me. She had more personality than any human and made us laugh every single day. Everyone loved Stella.
Her last day was a really good day. She had a cheeseburger happy meal and a cosmic brownie. She had one last burst of energy just long enough for me to get one last kiss from her and one last glimpse of our sassy playful Stella. She went peacefully at home in her bed with her blankie and favorite toys, surrounded by mom and dad telling her how much we loved her. It was our turn to give her lots of kisses.
Every day is a struggle without her, but we are so grateful Stella chose us and we had 7 years with her. She was perfect just the way she was. She will always have a very special place in our hearts. My last promise to her was that I would continue to help dogs just like her. In time I know she will send us the next one.
Momma loves you Stella Rose, forever and always.
Gigi
Our Gigi Girl,
She was a snuggle bug, alarm for the other dogs to get up to eat. Gigi never left my side. Always with us. She always had a sense of how we were feeling. There will never be another Boxer girl like her. Love you forever our sweet face.
