1/17/22:  Due to some life changes for his adopted mom, Wilbur is being returned to the rescue.  We are in need of a Minnesota (area) foster home for him.

From his mom:

Wilbur is a 7 year old Deaf white boxer. He knows some sign language and also uses a vibration collar to help him communicate. Wilbur likes to run and play fetch, he loves to cuddle and be touching you at all moments. Wilbur has separation anxiety, but does not destroy things when he is left alone. He likes to crawl under things like beds and be on tight spaces. (RESCUE NOTE: WE HAVE EMAILED TO ASK ABOUT CRATING)

Wilbur can tolerate other dogs who are submissive, but only if they are introduced correctly and his stamina is built with the other dogs. He does not do well with sharing any toys/food. And would do best as a single family dog. (RESCUE NOTE: THE TWO WEEK SHUTDOWN IS REQUIRED)

He can absolutely tolerate children and has often been around my nanny children. He is a little crazy at first, but once he settles down is very gentle.

Wilbur would do best with a family who wants an older dog who still has energy, but also loves to stay in and cuddle. He is very loyal and loving and would do great with a family that has a yard for him to roam. I am also hoping that he could find a home in a warmer climate has his skin does not to well in the cold dry winter. (RESCUE NOTE: WE WOULD PREFER TO NOT MOVE WILBUR LONG DISTANCE DUE TO HIS AGE AND NOT HAVING FIRSTHAND INFORMATION ON HIS BEHAVIOR)

Wilbur is a little hesitant at first with new people. But loves to get treats, and love from new people. He startles very easily, and gets scared in the dark. It would be best for new people to be met during the day. (RESCUE NOTE: SOUNDS LIKE SOME TYPICAL DEAF DOG BEHAVIOR)

Wilbur likes to eat when I am standing/sitting near him. He does well on a leash overall. But if he sees another dog he will start pulling and barking. I usually just walk the other way if we see other dogs. (RESCUE NOTE: DEFINITELY WORKABLE ON THE LEASH WALKING/NEEDS TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED AND CORRECTED)

3/20/22 UPDATE:  Wilbur will be moving to his Minnesota foster home today.  He is all caught up on his routine vetting and started on allergy medication to see if that helps with his itchy ears.  He will also be getting some dental surgery soon.

Please check back for updates and new pictures of this handsome hunk!!!
