Kiva was just surrendered to a central Kentucky shelter today and will be pulled from the shelter and taken to the vet clinic tomorrow morning to be all checked over and to receive her needed vetting. Kiva is good with other dogs we do not know about cats for children at this time.
9/21 UPDATE: Kiva has received all of her needed routine vetting. Unfortunately our girl tested positive for heartworm disease. We are doing some further testing to see if she will be able to undergo full treatment or if we will just do slow-kill treatment with medication.
10/2 UPDATE: Kiva has started on pre-heartworm treatment medications. She has moved to a Kentucky foster home and fit right in with the pack. She is a super gentle and loving girl and she gets along with everyone she meets.
11/9: Kiva's mammary tumor was growing and needed to be removed. Once she got all checked over, it was found that she had another tumor on the other side and line of pinpoint tumors, indicating cancer and due to her age and being heartworm positive we decided not to put her through the very invasive surgery it would have taken to remove them all. Kiva will continue on medications and as long as she continues to feel well and enjoy life we will keep her with us. She will remain at her current foster home as a forever foster.
